United Utilities large catchment area in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire form part of the catchment areas within the Wyre Estuary study area.

Beech Drive, Holts Lane, and Oldfield Carr Lane combined sewer overflows were deemed as unsatisfactory intermittent discharges (UID’s) on river impact grounds.

Westshield were directly appointed by United Utilities under their capital works framework to deliver the above schemes.

The Technical Aspect:

  • 10m x 7m x 5m precast concrete screen chamber
  • 9m x 9m x 6m precast concrete screen chamber
  • 15m internal diameter by 17.0m deep, 1450m3 off-line detention tank.
  • 5m x 6m x 4m valve chamber
  • 20m x 14m x 12m wet well/dry well pumping station and pipework
  • Deep beck crossing
  • Reinforced concrete headwall and ancillary protection works to the estuary
  • 500 mm diameter ductile iron rising main 2.5 kilometres
  • 750 mm diameter concrete gravity main 2.5 kilometres
  • 1500mm diameter concrete gravity main 1.0 kilometre
  • 900mm diameter concrete overflow pipeline 700m
  • 100, 200,400,450, 675 mm diameter ductile iron and concrete main 1.5 kilometres
  • 52 no. structural manhole chambers in varying sizes from 1500mm, 1800mm, 2400mm, 2700mm, 3000mm, 4000mm at depths ranging from 2.5m – 6.0m
  • Construction of access road including design, install of 30.0m long 60-ton capacity Bailey Bridge
  • Deep excavations

  • 40m augerbore crossing under the main dyke
