Birstall Town Centre Regeneration

Highways / Streetscape regeneration improvements scheme in a busy town centre, the works involved improvements to the footpaths and carriageways located within this central area and streetscape works to the Market Place.
Special features such as steps, walls, trees and street furniture were included to enhance the impact of the market area and the existing statue of Joseph Priestly which is a listed monument. In addition there were further external works undertaken throughout the area.
The Technical Aspect:
3600m² of carriageway were planed out and re surfaced using 65mm of heavy duty macadam and 35mm of 10mm stone mastic asphalt surface course.
The works were carried out in 3 phases under temporary traffic control to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses alike.
The surfacing operations were carried out on consecutive Sundays in order to allow local businesses to continue to operate.
The scheme was completed on time before the December 2008 deadline which was critical to our client because of the Christmas trade.
