HA Security of Supply of Cumbria enabled United Utilities to provide an alternative means of supplying the off takes between Watchgate Water Treatment Works (WwTw) and the HA Lunsdale Siphon during planned shutdowns or unplanned failure of the HA.

The Technical Aspect:

  • Construction of a pipeline from the Barrow Link Main in Oxenholme; Kendal to the Lunesdale Sipho, south east of Kendal
  • Two pumping stations at Old Hutton and Cowan Bridge service reservoir near the B6254 minor road adjacent to Barkin House on the pipeline route
  • Gravity pipeline was also required from the proposed service reservoir to supply Fairthorn and Sedbergh. 
  • Existing dosing building at the Fairthorn and Sedbergh / Killington HA off takes needed to be decommissioned as part of this contract

 

  • Pre-contract & post construction land drainage design and installation 
  • Designs for section/areas of work for civil works and M&E works
  • Roads, drainage, services & hard standings
  • Pipeline 400mm OD UPVC 4.5 Km, from the Barrow Link Main to Old Hutton pump station.
  • 1.1km pipeline, 160mm from Old Hutton pump Station to Sedbergh interconnection. 
  • 3kms pipeline, 250 mm OD pipeline to the proposed service reservoir 
  • 14kms Pipeline, 355 mm OD PE from Old Hutton pumping station to Sedbergh interconnection 
  • 8.3kms pipeline, 315 mm PVC Pipeline to the proposed service reservoir 
  • 2.2kms Pipeline 250 mm PVC from the Sedbergh interconnection to the Edbergh DMA end connection 
  • Construction of Old Hutton pump station
  • 4 mega litre Barkin House service reservoir
  • Cowan Bridge pumping station & 0.5km pipeline
