The works were located within Southport Town Centre in the Borough of Sefton in north Merseyside.

The overall scheme had been split into two phases for financial reasons and Westshield were awarded Phase 2 of the works from Bath Street to the Promenade.

The Technical Aspect:

The Phase 2 improvements included carriageway re-alignment/resurfacing pavement works. As a consequence of the re-alignment the adjacent, increased pedestrian area was reconstructed in quality paving.

Modifications were made to the existing traffic signals at the Promenade junction and also at the adjacent junction of the Promenade/Marine Parade Bridge.

Refurbishment works to the existing street lighting, drainage, and signage systems were also incorporated.

The materials used for both the carriageway and footway were a combination of traditional pre-cast concrete and natural stone products. The works also included elements of soft landscaping, involving the installation of new tree pits and tree planting.

The works also included for accommodation works including feature lighting for the replacement of the re-furbished listed monument to Queen Victoria, which was returned to the area after removal from site for these refurbishment works.
